The Adelaide City Council has included a 5.6% rate increase above inflation in its 2026-27 draft budget, setting the average residential rate at $2,387. The draft also delays planned nightlife upgrades while allocating $13.6 million for main street revitalisation on O'Connell Street, Gouger Street and Hutt Street.

By-law framework updates

Adelaide City Council endorsed the 2024 By-laws in August 2024. These by-laws took effect on 5 January 2025. The council later adopted the Miscellaneous Amendment By-law 2025 in April 2025, with that amendment scheduled to commence on 1 September 2025. These changes form part of the council's ongoing regulatory updates under the Local Government Act 1999 (SA).

Capital City Committee programs

The Capital City Committee, established in 1998 as a partnership between the Adelaide City Council and the South Australian state government, continues to support annual programs. These focus on activated laneways, the late-night economy and the Renew Adelaide creative enterprise initiative, which works to fill empty commercial spaces in the city.

Decision-making process and election timing

Under the Local Government Act 1999 (SA), council decisions can only be made at formal meetings held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Information or briefing sessions cannot authorise decisions. Separately, the 2026 City of Adelaide Council Election voting close has been delayed to 7 April 2027.
