Aboriginal Wellbeing Centre Opens in Adelaide CBD, Urgent Care Clinic Expands East

The city has committed $10.8 million to build a new Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing centre in the Adelaide CBD, with an interim service scheduled to open by the end of 2025. This infrastructure project adds a dedicated facility for social and emotional support directly in the central business district.

Expanded Urgent Care Access

Thirty Medicare Urgent Care Clinics now operate across the region, including one in Eastern Adelaide. Twenty additional clinics remain on track to open before the June 30 commitment deadline. These sites provide residents with more local options for urgent but non-emergency care, reducing pressure on central hospital services.

Local health authorities continue to maintain a high-alert status for the metropolitan Adelaide area. Confirmed cases of measles and invasive meningococcal disease have prompted ongoing vaccination programs, including intranasal options for children. Residents can access these programs through existing clinics and the new urgent care sites.

Broader Care Network and Mental Health Reach

A statewide cancer network receives $77 million over five years to improve prevention, early detection and care delivery. The 2026 mental health expansion allocates $13.9 million over five years to extend the Mental Health Co-Responder Program into southern Adelaide. These measures increase service coverage for CBD residents who travel to or from southern suburbs for treatment.

The combined investments support new health infrastructure, additional clinic capacity and extended response programs. Residents in the Adelaide CBD and nearby eastern and southern areas gain more entry points for care while local health facilities prepare for the interim wellbeing centre opening later this year.
