Adelaide CBD Installs Fiber Networks, Parking Sensors, Smart Lighting
The City of Adelaide continues work on fiber networks, parking sensors and lighting systems funded through the Adelaide City Deal.
How we reported this

The City of Adelaide operates Ten Gigabit Adelaide, a fiber optic network providing 10Gbps speeds to support smart city data transfer and innovation.
Network and Sensor Foundations
Over 2,800 in-ground parking sensors are installed across the CBD and linked to the UPark/Park Adelaide app for real-time availability, payment and remote session extension. These sensors operate alongside the Ten Gigabit Adelaide network, which supplies the high-speed connectivity required for data transfer from the sensors to the app.
Lighting and Energy Systems
More than 60 smart, sensor-driven LED lights have been modified along Pirie Street and Hindmarsh Square in the CBD to enable on-demand lighting and energy conservation. The modifications allow the lights to respond to presence and reduce power use when areas are unoccupied.
Funding Through the Adelaide City Deal
The Adelaide City Deal includes a $10 million Australian Government investment in smart infrastructure for the CBD, with the City of Adelaide contributing up to $12.6 million. This funding supports the fiber network, parking sensors and LED lighting upgrades already in place.
These projects together create a connected system across the CBD where data from sensors and lights can move at 10Gbps speeds through the Ten Gigabit Adelaide network. The parking sensors feed live information to the UPark/Park Adelaide app while the modified lights on Pirie Street and Hindmarsh Square adjust output based on detected activity.
Further development will build on the existing fiber backbone, sensor network and lighting controls already operating in the CBD. Residents and visitors can continue to use the UPark/Park Adelaide app for parking management while the City of Adelaide maintains the Ten Gigabit Adelaide network and the smart LED installations along Pirie Street and Hindmarsh Square.
